About the Role:

The Asset Health Specialist is responsible for delivering condition monitoring, predictive maintenance, and asset health programs to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient performance of critical plant equipment.

Reporting to the Infrastructure Mechanical Maintenance Superintendent, this role plays a key part in identifying early signs of equipment deterioration through advanced monitoring techniques, enabling proactive intervention before failures occur. By converting asset health data into actionable insights, the Asset Health Specialist supports maintenance and reliability teams to reduce unplanned downtime, extend asset life, and optimise maintenance strategies.

The role is critical in ensuring compliance with Western Australian Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022, Australian Standards, and site reliability requirements, while contributing to continuous improvement and long-term operational sustainability.

Responsibilities include:

  • provide day-to-day technical support to maintenance supervisors and trades during breakdowns and repairs;
  • conduct regular condition monitoring activities including thermography, vibration analysis, oil analysis, and ultrasound inspections;
  • establish, maintain, and execute condition monitoring routes and schedules across critical assets;
  • identify early signs of equipment deterioration and escalate findings based on risk and criticality;
  • Analyse asset health data to identify trends, emerging risks, and improvement opportunities;
  • utilise asset health monitoring software and data acquisition systems (e.g. Emerson, SKF, Pruftechnik, Citect);
  • integrate monitoring results into the CMMS to support maintenance planning and traceability;
  • prepare clear technical reports, dashboards, and recommendations for maintenance, operations, and leadership;
  • support Root Cause Analysis (RCA/ICAM), FMEA/FMECA, and reliability-centred maintenance activities;
  • provide risk-based recommendations for corrective and preventive maintenance actions;
  • support shutdown planning by identifying assets requiring inspection, repair, or replacement;
  • validate repairs and replacements through post-maintenance condition monitoring;
  • ensure all asset health activities comply with WA WHS (Mines) Regulations 2022 and Australian Standards;
  • participate in risk assessments and development of safe work instructions and procedures;
  • track and report on KPIs including MTBF, MTTR, and equipment availability;
  • coach and mentor trades, supervisors, and engineers in condition monitoring practices; and
  • promote asset health awareness and a proactive reliability culture across site.

 

About the Candidate:

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and competencies:

  • Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline; or
  • Trade qualification (Fitter, Mechanical Technician, or similar) with significant condition monitoring experience
  • Category II Vibration Analysis Certification (ISO 18436.2)
  • Thermography Certification (ASNT/ISO Category I or II)
  • Strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards.

Desirable:

  • White Card (Construction Induction)
  • Six Sigma, Lean Maintenance, or equivalent continuous improvement certification
  • Working at Heights, Confined Space, or High-Risk Work Licences
  • Certification or training in oil analysis, ultrasound, laser alignment, or other predictive maintenance technologies

The successful candidate will have the following experience, skills and attributes:

  • demonstrated experience in thermography, vibration analysis, oil analysis, ultrasound, and predictive maintenance techniques;
  • strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills to interpret complex asset health data;
  • experience developing and executing condition monitoring programs and schedules;
  • proficiency with asset health monitoring software and CMMS platforms;
  • sound understanding of reliability engineering principles including MTBF, MTTR, RCM, and FMEA/FMECA;
  • ability to conduct root cause analysis and recommend effective corrective actions;
  • strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into practical, risk-based maintenance decisions;
  • excellent communication and reporting skills, able to influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders;
  • proven ability to prioritise work based on risk, reliability impact, and production requirements;
  • Strong organisational and time management skills to manage multiple monitoring programs;
  • commitment to continuous improvement and adoption of new technologies;
  • collaborative approach with the ability to coach and mentor others; and
  • high attention to detail with a strong focus on safety, compliance, and asset integrity.
