About the Role
Reporting to the Senior Drill and Blast Engineer, the successful candidate will be responsible for executing drill and blast planning activities for the Greenbushes mining operation. This role ensures that all drilling and blasting is carried out safely, efficiently, and in an environmentally responsible manner, contributing to the overall success of site operations.
This Greenbushes based Drill and Blast Engineer role is offered on an 8/6 roster, working 10 hour days, providing an excellent work life balance. For those based outside the region, we offer a Drive-In Drive-Out (DIDO) arrangement with fully catered camp accommodation provided. Responsibilities include
- develop drill and blast designs for operational implementation, based on long-term concept designs and aligned with short-term scheduling requirements;
- incorporate environmental and geotechnical considerations into drill and blast planning, while liaising with external consultants across relevant disciplines to ensure safe, effective, and compliant outcomes;
- monitor and manage drill and blast production statistics to support performance tracking and improvement;
- conduct weekly reviews of drill and blast performance against targets, investigating and reporting on any variance to plan;
- collaborate with the Mine Planning team to ensure short-term plans align with the quarterly mine plan;
- assess alignment between medium-term activities and long-term mine plans, recommending corrective actions where necessary;
- participate in daily and weekly mine production meetings to track drill and blast performance against plan;
- regularly inspect mining areas to assess drill and blast conditions and contribute to the development of corrective actions for identified issues; and
- review monthly contractor claims and provide recommendations for negotiated adjustments.
About the Candidate
- tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering (preferred);
- a minimum of 2 years’ experience in drill and blast operations or engineering, with a strong focus on drill and blast design.
- proven capability across various mine planning functions, with a strategic understanding of open pit mining design;
- proficiency in CAD-based mine design software and mining applications such as Surpac and ShotPlus;
- strong analytical skills, with experience preparing and managing operating budgets and analysing cost variances;
- technical knowledge across key mining operations including drilling, blast hole charging, excavation, and haulage;
- contract management experience (desirable, but not mandatory), including inspection test plans, quality assurance, and monthly claim assessments;
- excellent report writing, interpersonal, and communication skills;
- the ability to demonstrate effective people management and team collaboration;
- a solid understanding of mine safety regulations and environmental management systems; and
- high level of computer literacy, particularly with the Microsoft Office Suite and mining-specific software.
