About the Role

Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, the successful candidate will lead the safe, practical and effective delivery of geotechnical services for the Greenbushes open cut lithium mine. The role ensures ground conditions are understood, geotechnical risks are identified and controlled, and pit, dump, TSF and infrastructure designs are supported by fit-for-purpose geotechnical input in accordance with site standards, regulatory obligations and Talison’s safety, environmental and production objectives.

 

Join our team on an attractive 5:2 residential roster, with this permanent, full-time opportunity based in the beautiful Greenbushes region. Accommodation options are available, with alternative roster arrangements considered for the right candidate. 

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead the safe and effective delivery of geotechnical services for the Greenbushes open cut lithium mine;
  • Maintain a visible field presence and routinely inspect pit walls, ramps, waste dumps, ROM areas, TSF interfaces and other mining areas to verify ground conditions and controls;
  • Own and maintain the site Geotechnical Principal Mining Hazard Management Plan and associated geotechnical standards, procedures and trigger action response plans;
  • Provide technical review, endorsement and assurance of geotechnical design inputs for pit slopes, ramps, berms, dumps, infrastructure, drainage, TSF interfaces and staged mine designs;
  • Ensure geotechnical considerations are incorporated into short, medium and long term mine plans, drill and blast designs, production sequencing and operational risk controls;
  • Review geotechnical monitoring data, inspections and hazard mapping to identify trends, communicate risks and implement timely corrective actions;
  • Lead geotechnical risk assessments, slope instability reviews, incident investigations and post-event reviews, ensuring learnings are captured and actions are closed out;
  • Liaise with Mining, Geology, Mine Planning, Survey, Processing, Infrastructure, HSE and external consultants to ensure geotechnical recommendations are practical, understood and implemented; and
  • Manage geotechnical consultants, contractors, scopes of work, technical reviews, budgets and schedules associated with geotechnical investigations and studies.

 

 About the Candidate:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering or equivalent;
  • Postgraduate qualifications in mine geomechanics, rock mechanics or geotechnical engineering highly regarded;
  • 10 years relevant Geotechnical experience in open cut mining operations, preferably in hard rock mining environments;
  • Knowledge and ability to interpret applicable mine safety legislation, standards, guidelines and site management plans;
  • Demonstrated ability to lead open pit geotechnical programs, ground control systems, slope management and geotechnical risk processes; and
  • WA Quarry Manager’s Certificate, statutory supervisor competency or other applicable statutory qualifications highly desirable.
