About the Role:

The Lead Mechanical Engineer supports the Technical Services Manager in implementing strategies and execution methods for projects at Greenbushes Lithium Operation (Site, Mine) in alignment with the Engineering Management Plan. This plan defines the scope of work, execution procedures and technical responsibility for engineering design at site.

The role ensures that all mechanical engineering work across projects meets project requirements, complies with Talison’s technical standards, and maintains the integrity of the plant facilities. They include developing and applying discipline-specific Design Criteria, procedures and job instructions.

Additionally, the Lead Engineer – Mechanical is responsible for the development, maintenance and continuous improvement of site standards, design criteria and procedures related to the mechanical engineering discipline.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • lead mechanical engineering design across site projects to meet safety, quality and performance requirements;
  • develop and apply discipline-specific design criteria, procedures and job instructions;
  • oversee mechanical equipment including vessels, tanks, compressors, pumps and packaged systems;
  • Interface with structural, piping and other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated facility layouts;
  • manage technical, control and administrative functions during detailed design execution;
  • deliver designs that balance lowest life-cycle cost, compliance, operational efficiency and HSE requirements;
  • prepare comprehensive deliverables to support approvals, construction, commissioning and operations;
  • minimise rework by ensuring accurate, thorough detailed engineering;
  • coordinate with Consultants, Contractors, Suppliers and Operations to manage technical inputs;
  • release engineering deliverables to align with procurement and construction schedules;
  • review and recommend changes to project scope where required;
  • prepare contract and procurement documentation;
  • provide engineering input into estimates and schedules;
  • apply ALARP principles and support risk assessments (including QRA where required);
  • identify gaps in information, standards and specifications to support business improvement;and
  • undertake duties as directed and actively promote Talison’s values and accountability expectations.

 

About the candidate: 

 

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and competencies:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering (or closely related discipline).

 

The successful candidate will have the following experience, skills and attributes:

  • minimum 10 years’ relevant engineering experience, ideally within brownfield mining or mineral processing projects;
  • exposure to geotechnical and hydrological design considerations;
  • demonstrated capability in planning, project and contract management (tenders, scopes, BOQs, ITPs);
  • experience with financial analysis including capital budgets, forecasts and cost variance;
  • proven leadership capability with strong interpersonal, communication and technical writing skills;
  • sound understanding of mine safety regulations and HSE management systems;
  • high level of IT proficiency, particularly with project planning tools and Microsoft Office;and
  • ability to manage complex technical interfaces and competing priorities while maintaining quality standards.
