About the Role:
The Lead Piping Engineer supports the Technical Services Manager in implementing engineering strategies and execution methods for projects at the Greenbushes Lithium Operation, in alignment with the Engineering Management Plan. This role provides technical leadership across all piping engineering activities, ensuring designs meet project requirements, comply with Talison’s technical standards, and maintain the integrity and operability of plant facilities.
The position is responsible for developing, applying and continuously improving piping-specific design criteria, standards, procedures and job instructions, while working closely with operations, contractors and other engineering disciplines across site-based projects.
Responsibilities include:
The key responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:
- lead above-ground and underground piping design, including plant layout development, painting and insulation;
- interface with civil, mechanical, GIS and other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated facility layouts;
- develop and apply piping design criteria, standards, procedures and job instructions;
- ensure all piping engineering work complies with Talison standards, specifications and HSE requirements;
- execute detailed engineering with minimal rework to reduce site-based construction changes;
- provide comprehensive engineering deliverables to support approval, construction, commissioning, operations and maintenance;
- incorporate consultant and contractor input into engineering deliverables;
- release engineering deliverables in line with procurement and construction schedules;
- manage technical interfaces between Operations, Suppliers, Contractors and Consultants;
- review and recommend changes to scope of work where required;
- prepare contract and procurement documentation to support contract award;
- provide engineering input into cost estimates and project schedules;
- apply ALARP principles and support designs with Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA) where required; and
- identify gaps in standards, specifications and information to support continuous improvement initiatives.
About the candidate:
The successful candidate will be a highly experienced engineer with strong technical expertise in piping and fluid systems, ideally within mining or mineral processing environments. You are collaborative, detail-focused and capable of leading complex engineering activities while balancing safety, cost, schedule and operational requirements.
The Successful Candidate Will Have the Following Experience, Skills and Attributes:
- minimum 10 years’ relevant engineering experience, preferably on brownfield projects;
- experience in mining or mineral processing environments;;
- strong capability in project planning, project management and contract management;
- experience preparing tenders, scopes of work, BOQs and ITPs;
- demonstrated financial capability including capital budgeting, forecasting and cost variance analysis;
- proven ability to lead and manage engineering teams;
- strong interpersonal, communication and technical writing skills;
- solid understanding of mine safety regulations and HSE management systems;
- high level of IT proficiency, including Microsoft Office and project planning tools; and
- a proactive approach with strong attention to detail and commitment to engineering excellence.
