About the Role:
The Lead Structural Engineer supports the Technical Services Manager in implementing strategies and execution methods for projects at Greenbushes Lithium Operation (Site, Mine) in alignment with the Engineering Management Plan. This plan defines the scope of work, execution procedures and technical responsibility for engineering design at site.
The role ensures that all structural engineering work across projects meets project requirements, complies with Talison’s technical standards, and maintains the integrity of the plant facilities. They include developing and applying discipline-specific Design Criteria, procedures and job instructions.
Additionally, the Lead Structural Engineer is responsible for the development, maintenance and continuous improvement of site standards, design criteria and procedures related to the structural engineering discipline.
Responsibilities include:
The key responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:
- lead the design and technical governance of all structural steel and structural engineering works across site projects;
- interface with civil, mechanical and other engineering disciplines to support integrated facility layouts;
- execute and oversee detailed engineering design in accordance with specifications, standards and project requirements;
- develop facilities that achieve lowest life-cycle cost while meeting HSE, operational and maintenance requirements;
- produce comprehensive engineering deliverables to support approval, construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance;
- minimise rework through high-quality engineering execution and effective design coordination
- incorporate consultant and contractor input into engineering deliverables as appropriate;
- release engineering deliverables in line with procurement and construction schedules;
- manage technical interfaces between Operations, Suppliers, Contractors and Consultants;
- review and recommend changes to scope of work where required;
- Prepare engineering input into contract, procurement, estimates and schedules
- Apply ALARP principles and support designs with Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA) where required
- Identify gaps in standards, specifications and information to support continuous improvement initiatives
About the candidate:
The successful candidate will be a highly experienced structural or civil engineer with strong leadership capability and a proven background in delivering engineering solutions in complex, operational environments. You will be confident working in brownfield, mining or mineral processing settings and capable of balancing technical excellence with safety, cost and schedule outcomes
The Successful Candidate Will Have the Following Qualifications and Competencies:
- Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering
The Successful Candidate Will Have the Following Experience, Skills and Attributes:
- minimum 10 years’ relevant civil/structural engineering experience, preferably in brownfield projects;
- experience in mining or mineral processing environments, including exposure to geotechnical and hydrological considerations;
- demonstrated capability in project planning, project management and contract management;
- experience preparing tenders, scopes of work, BOQs, ITPs and procurement documentation;
- strong financial and commercial acumen, including capital budgeting, forecasting and cost control;
- proven ability to lead and manage engineering teams;
- strong interpersonal, communication and technical writing skills;
- solid understanding of mine safety legislation and HSE management systems;
- high level of IT proficiency, including Microsoft Office and project planning tools; and
- A proactive, detail-oriented approach with a commitment to continuous improvement and engineering excellence
