About the Role

Reporting to Mine Manager, the Principal Long Term Planner is responsible for developing and managing mine plans that span from two years through Life of Mine, ensuring alignment with operational goals and strategic objectives. Your expertise will drive safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible mining practices, balancing resource optimisation with sustainability. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will provide technical leadership and deliver plans that support long-term productivity and value creation.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • develop pit and waste dump designs incorporating environmental and geotechnical considerations;
  • prepare quarterly medium-term plans (two-year horizon), annual five-year plans, and the Life of Mine plan;
  • complete annual Ore Reserve Estimation including preparing the reserve model;
  • monitor compliance with plans and provide technical input to short-term planning teams;
  • interface with shareholder technical representatives to ensure accurate and consistent planning information;
  • liaise with internal teams, shareholder representatives, and external consultants (geotechnical, engineering, environmental) as required; and
  • support capital projects, budgeting processes, and regulatory reporting.

About the Candidate:

  • tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering; 
  • Quarry Manager’s Certificate desirable;
  • AusIMM accreditation as a Competent Person under JORC preferred;
  • 10+ years’ experience in open-pit mine planning within a mid-sized operation;
  • strong capability in mine design, including open-pit, tailings storage, and water dam planning;
  • solid understanding of geotechnical principles, geological modelling, and Ore Reserve estimation;
  • proficiency in CAD-based mine design software and Microsoft Office Suite;
  • ability to conduct financial analysis and prepare project cost models;
  • excellent technical reporting, communication, and interpersonal skills;
  • demonstrated leadership and team management experience; and
  • knowledge of mine safety regulations and environmental management systems.
