About the Role:
We are excited to announce that we are inviting applications for a role in alignment with our Approvals & Compliance team - a Senior Approvals Specialist. Reporting into the Approvals & Compliance Manager, this role is responsible for providing functional support for the delivery of strategic planning, stakeholder engagement and government relations to deliver on regulatory approval processes associated with the operation and expansion of the Talison Lithium Greenbushes Operation.
The position is of crucial importance to Talison and a great opportunity for skills, experience and influence to be applied to support the delivery of Talison’s strategic priorities.
Please note that this role can be based in our Perth or Greenbushes location, on a 5:2 (Monday to Friday) roster.
Responsibilities include:
- Successfully plan and lead Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), including permitting and approval processes relating to mine development and expansion projects to deliver approvals outcomes aligned with the strategic goals and values of the organisation
- Be an agile and transparent communicator, with an ability to achieve understandings with internal and external stakeholders (including regulators), ensuring appropriate levels of engagement are established for each party;
- Navigating the process of gaining permission and establishing agreements for entering and utilising private land, including a detailed understanding of Indigenous engagement;
- Successful facilitation and representation of internal and external consultation processes related to project development, land access, and heritage management;
- Implementation and improvement of systems as required, to identify and control environmental and compliance risks (ranging from project to enterprise levels);
- Preparing and maintaining schedules and plans required to project manage the above to agreed schedule, scope and costs;
- Interface with other Departments within the business to communicate approval requirements, integrate key approvals tasks into project timelines, report on progress and communicate compliance requirements; and
- Support and mentor other members within the Approvals & Compliance team.
About the Candidate:
The following qualification/s and competencies are considered essential for this position:
- Tertiary qualifications in Biological/Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Natural Resource Management (NRM) or similar;
- Greater than 10 years of experience in a similar role, including end-to-end approvals and/or site environmental management within the mining or resources sector;
- Proficiency within the Microsoft suite (Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite and Excel);
- Project management software proficiency (e.g. MS Project, P6 Primavera); and
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS) proficiency (e.g. ESRI ArcMap & ArcGIS Pro).
The incumbent should have the following skills and/or experience:
- Demonstrated experience and a strong understanding of the following relevant legislation including:
- Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC);
- Environmental Protection Act 1986 (EP); and
- Mining Act 1978 (MA);
- Exceptional communication, influencing and negotiation skills, including a demonstrated ability to build effective partnerships with regulatory authorities, local communities, Traditional Owners, and other stakeholders;
- Excellent organisational skills, including proficiency in project management (including schedules, cost analysis/management and resourcing);
- A detailed experience in tenement and tenure management;
- Proven experience in managing complex approvals processes and stakeholder negotiations;
- Support compliance with relevant legislation, agreements, and company policies;
- Prepared to understand stakeholder positions and can navigate diverse and complex situations; and
- Strong worth ethic and the capability to work with initiative and independence.
