About the Role
Reporting to the Mine Planning Superintendent, the successful candidate will supervise drill and blast planning processes for the Greenbushes mining operation, to ensure that drilling and blasting operations are conducted in a safe, economic and environmentally responsible manner.
This Greenbushes-based role is available on an 8&6 roster as either a residential position or a drive-in/drive-out (DIDO) arrangement, with camp accommodation provided.
Responsibilities include:
- actively contribute to the safe and environmentally responsible execution of drill and blast operations;
- provide leadership and guidance to a team of skilled drill and blast engineers;
- drive the development and implementation of practical drill and blast designs aligned with short-term mine plans;
- embed environmental and geotechnical insights into all drill and blast planning activities;
- track and optimise drill and blast production metrics to support continuous improvement;
- support the development of accurate and cost-effective drill and blast budgets;
- conduct monthly performance reviews, identifying and addressing variances to meet operational targets;
- make informed decisions to ensure safe and efficient outcomes;
- collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including geotechnical, environmental, and quality consultants;
- contribute to regulatory reporting and approval processes for drill and blast activities;
- evaluate contractor claims and provide recommendations for fair and strategic adjustments; and
- provide support and act as deputy to the Mine Planning Superintendent when required.
About the Candidate
- tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering (preferred);
- at least 5 years’ hands-on experience in a Drill and Blast Engineering role;
- commitment to safety, health, and environmental management systems;
- knowledge and ability to interpret explosives and mine safety regulations;
- technical experience with blast vibration and airblast monitoring, management and community engagement;
- demonstrated capability in broader mine planning functions;
- sound understanding of open pit mine design principles and strategic business alignment;
- proficiency in CAD-based mine design software with a focus on practical application;
- strong analytical skills for budget preparation and cost variance analysis;
- technical expertise across key mining operations including drilling, charging, excavation, and haulage;
- exceptional report writing abilities to support operational and regulatory needs;
- proven leadership, interpersonal and communication skills to engage with diverse teams and stakeholders; and
- confidence using mining software (e.g. Surpac, ShotPlus) and Microsoft Office programs.
