About the Role

Reporting to the Environmental Superintendent, the Senior Environmental Advisor – Processing is a key leadership role responsible for driving strong environmental outcomes across Processing and Infrastructure operations, including Tailings and Water. The role provides senior technical and operational guidance to site leadership, balancing regulatory compliance with practical, risk based decision making.

As a trusted advisor, you will influence operational strategy, mentor environmental professionals, and work closely with internal and external stakeholders to deliver industry leading environmental performance while supporting the site’s longterm operational and sustainability objectives.

This is an opportunity to step into a senior, site‑based environmental leadership role with real influence over environmental performance at one of Australia’s most significant mining operations.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • provide seniorlevel environmental leadership and authoritative advice to site leadership on regulatory, permitting, and compliance matters across Processing, Tailings, and Water Infrastructure operations;
  • lead the delivery of industry leading environmental management practices, ensuring effective management of surface and groundwater risks in a complex mining and processing environment;
  • partner closely with the Environmental Superintendent to own the implementation, review, and continuous improvement of sitewide water management plans in alignment with regulatory approvals and corporate standards;
  • set the technical direction for surface and groundwater monitoring programs, translating data against licence conditions and benchmarks into risk‑based operational and strategic decisions;
  • lead, mentor, and develop environmental personnel, building depth of capability and embedding a strong culture of accountability and safety across site;
  • lead environmental and safety incident investigations ensuring effective corrective action and regulatory closeout;
  • drive environmental capability uplift across operations through the design and delivery of targeted training, toolbox talks, and leadership engagement;
  • engaging with regulators, consultants, contractors, and senior operational stakeholders, providing clear, credible, and defensible environmental advice;
  • ensure accurate preparation, quality assurance, and submission of statutory and internal environmental reports in line with legislative and corporate requirements;
  • oversee the performance of environmental consultants and contractors, ensuring alignment with site standards, safety expectations, and business objectives;
  • contribute meaningfully to site budget and business planning by setting priorities, forecasting environmental initiatives, and ensuring effective delivery and value; and
  • actively build environmental leadership maturity across the site by supporting succession planning and longterm capability development within the environmental function.

 

About the Candidate:

  • holds tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Engineering, Earth Sciences, or a related discipline;
  • brings a minimum of 5 years’ experience in environmental roles within the mining industry;
  • experience in supporting the environmental aspects of processing operations and tailings facilities;
  • demonstrates strong technical expertise in surface and groundwater management, monitoring, and compliance;
  • possesses a thorough understanding of relevant environmental legislation, standards, and regulatory frameworks;
  • proven experience implementing and maintaining environmental management systems, along with developing operational plans and procedures;
  • effective people leader, with demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor, and guide team members to build capability and accountability; and
  • proficient in the use of spreadsheets, databases, and word‑processing tools to support data management, reporting, and decision‑making.
