About the Role 

Reporting to the Environmental Superintendent, the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Processing and Infrastructure Departments (Tailings and Water) to meet environmental commitments and drive bestpractice environmental management. This includes ensuring strong performance in surface and groundwater protection, dust control, and noise minimisation.

They will also review and interpret water monitoring data, contribute to regulatory reporting, and provide leadership, guidance, and daytoday support to the Environmental Advisor – Processing.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • providing expert advice on regulatory, licensing, permitting, and compliance matters across the Processing, Tailings, and Water Infrastructure areas;
  • championing best practice environmental management, with a focus on groundwater and surface water protection, dust control, and noise minimization;
  • supporting the Environmental Superintendent in implementing, reviewing, and improving site specific Dust, Noise, and Water Management Plans to meet internal and regulatory requirements;
  • interpreting surface and groundwater monitoring data and assessing results against relevant guidelines and regulatory limits;
  • leading and mentoring direct reports, fostering a strong culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement;
  • leading investigations into environmental and safety incidents and ensuring timely close out of corrective actions;
  • developing and delivering environmental and safety training, including toolbox talks and awareness sessions;
  • conducting site tours and communicating clear, accurate environmental and safety information to internal and external stakeholders;
  • preparing and submitting statutory and internal reports in line with legislative and organisational requirements;
  • coordinating consultants and contractors to ensure alignment with environmental expectations, safety standards, and business objectives; and
  • contributing to budget and business planning through accurate forecasting and prioritisation of environmental initiatives.

 

About the Candidate:

  • tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Engineering, Earth Sciences, or a related discipline;
  • minimum of 5 years’ experience in environmental roles within mining or heavy industry;
  • experience managing environmental aspects of processing operations and tailings facilities;
  • technical expertise in surface and groundwater management, monitoring, and compliance;
  • a solid understanding of relevant environmental legislation, standards, and regulatory frameworks;
  • demonstrated experience implementing and maintaining environmental management systems, along with developing operational plans and procedures;
  • proven capability to supervise, mentor, and support team members;
  • strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders;
  • proficiency in spreadsheets, databases, and reporting tools for environmental data management; and
  • the ability to work autonomously and deliver outcomes with minimal supervision.

 

Competencies:

The incumbent should have the following competencies:

  • current ‘C’ class Drivers Licence; and
  • Provide first aid.
