About the Role:

Talison Lithium’s Greenbushes Lithium Operation is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Safety Advisor to join our team. Reporting to the Work Health and Safety Superintendent, the successful candidate will provide leadership to the safety team at the Greenbushes Operation, with a primary focus on overseeing safety compliance and risk management for high-risk construction work. This pivotal leadership role will adhere to the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 and Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, including contractors, government agencies, traditional owners, and the local community, to uphold safety standards and honour social license commitments.

 

Duties of the Role:

Duties include, but are not necessarily limited to:

  • engage with health and safety teams and contractors to identify, implement and monitor reasonably practicable controls for high-risk construction work as defined in WHS Mines Regulations r.291;
  • provide specialist advice and technical support for high-risk construction tasks, verifying contractor qualifications and adherence to high-risk work licences and contract terms with a detail-oriented approach;
  • audit contractor safety performance, including management plans, high-risk work licences, and contractual safety clauses, to ensure alignment with site, legislative, and client requirements.
  • coordinate and participate in safety audits and inspections of high-risk construction work, reporting outcomes to the Work Health & Safety Superintendent;
  • develop and implement strategies to prevent and minimize workplace injuries associated with high-risk construction work, considering contractual and liability implications;
  • lead quality incident investigations for construction-related incidents using root cause analysis methodologies (e.g., ICAM), assessing potential liability exposures;
  • ensure governance through scheduled audits of high-risk construction management plans, procedures, risk assessments, and contractual safety obligations; and
  • Foster a proactive safety culture by engaging with contractors and stakeholders to promote safe work practices for high-risk activities.

 

 

About the Candidate:

The following qualification/s are considered desirable tor this position

  • diploma or Tertiary degree in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., BSB51319 Diploma of Work Health and Safety or equivalent); and
  • construction safety-specific training (e.g., CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry or equivalent).

The candidate should ideally have the following skills and/or experience:

  • minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in safety roles within surface mining or construction;
  • advanced hazard identification and risk assessment skills specific to high-risk construction tasks, aligned with industry standards;
  • detail-oriented approach to ensure accuracy in safety documentation, audits, and compliance reporting;
  • people-focused communication skills to effectively engage, influence, and build trust with contractors, site personnel, and stakeholders;
  • demonstrated experience in the development and review of Work Health & safety Management Plans to ensure the required processes are in place to manage the risks associated with a complex construction project;
  • experience in post contract award to ensure safety compliance and alignment with contractual obligations;
  • strong change management, influencing, and advocacy skills to drive safety culture among contractors and site personnel; and
  • proficiency in spreadsheets, databases, word processing applications, and safety management software.

 

The following competencies are considered essential for this position:

  • BSBWHS411 – Implement and Monitor WHS Policies, Procedures, and Programs;
  • RIIRIS402E – Carry Out the Risk Management Process (or Equivalent);
  • In-depth knowledge of the Work Health and Safety Act 2020, Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022 and relevant WorkSafe Codes of Practice (e.g. Construction Work) as applied to high-risk construction activities; and
  • Current Western Australian “C” Class Drivers licence;
