This is a field-based role, working directly with supervisors and contractors to support safe work execution in a dynamic mining and construction environment.
The role operates in accordance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 (WA) and Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022, engaging with internal and external stakeholders including contractors, regulators, traditional owners, and the local community.
Work Location & Roster:
This is a site-based role operating on an 8 days on / 6 days off roster (10-hour shifts) at the Greenbushes Operation.

About You:
You are someone who operates effectively in a dynamic, high-risk mining and construction environment, and takes pride in supporting workgroups to safely plan and execute high-risk work.
You are known for your practical approach, humility, and consistency, building trust with others through how you engage, listen, and follow through.
You bring a level of quiet confidence and are able to hold your position when required, while maintaining a respectful and professional approach.
You bring the ability to:
- work with supervisors and crews to clearly identify the hazard and Material Unwanted Event (MUE) for high-risk tasks;
- guide teams to focus on the critical controls that prevent serious injury or fatality, not just general controls;
- ensure workgroups clearly understand and apply controls in the field before work begins;
- provide practical input when controls are unclear or incomplete, and work with teams to resolve issues and see them through to an effective outcome;
- engage in a calm, respectful, and grounded manner, building trust while maintaining clear expectations;
- take the time to listen and understand the work, using this to provide guidance that is relevant, practical, and achievable;
- demonstrate persistence and follow-through, ensuring that improvements are not just identified, but implemented and sustained;
- maintain a strong field presence, recognising that effective safety outcomes are achieved through direct engagement at the work front; and
- you take ownership of unresolved risk and work with others to ensure issues are addressed to a practical and effective standard.
Duties of the Role:
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- identify and support the implementation of reasonably practicable controls for high-risk construction work in accordance with WHS (Mines) Regulations 2022;
- verify in the field that controls are effective, appropriate to the level of risk, and consistently applied;
- provide clear, practical, and risk-informed advice to supervisors and contractors to support safe planning and execution of work;
- support the development and improvement of JHAs, SWMS, and risk assessments to ensure they are specific, usable, and aligned to the task;
- conduct inspections, audits, and task interactions to identify gaps between planned controls and work as performed;
- assist in verifying contractor capability, including qualifications and alignment with safety and contractual requirements;
- participate in and lead incident investigations (e.g. ICAM), with a focus on identifying control gaps and strengthening systems;
- monitor and support the completion of actions arising from incidents, audits, and inspections to ensure timely and effective close-out; and
- build and maintain strong working relationships across the operation to support a consistent and practical approach to managing risk.
Qualifications, skills and experience:
The following qualification/s are considered desirable for this position:
- Diploma or tertiary qualification in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent);
- construction safety-related training (e.g. CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry or equivalent);
- training in contractor management and/or high-risk work activities;
- training in incident investigation methodologies (e.g. ICAM or equivalent).
The successful candidate will ideally demonstrate:
- minimum of seven (7) years’ practical experience in mining or construction safety environments;
- strong capability in identifying hazards and supporting the implementation and verification of effective controls for high-risk construction work;
- A practical, detail-oriented approach, with a focus on control effectiveness in the field rather than documentation alone;
- well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage, influence, and build trust across supervisors, contractors, and stakeholders;
- demonstrated experience in the development and review of Work Health & Safety Management Plans to ensure they are fit for purpose and practically applied;
- experience working within contractor environments, including post-award safety management and alignment with contractual obligations;
- the ability to support and sustain positive change, working through challenges to achieve consistent and effective safety outcomes; and
