About the Role:

Reporting to the Senior Reliability Engineer the The Shutdown Engineer will be responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution support of fixed plant shutdowns within a mining operation. This role ensures that shutdowns are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all relevant legislative and organisational standards, while achieving targeted outcomes in time, cost, and quality.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • develop and review shutdown scopes, schedules, and resource plans;
  • coordinate with maintenance, operations, engineering, and HSE teams to ensure scope alignment and readiness;
  • identify critical path items and develop contingency plans;
  • lead shutdown planning meetings and ensure all pre-shutdown tasks are completed;
  • support on-the-ground execution during shutdowns and troubleshoot issues in real-time;
  • track progress, variances, and issues throughout the shutdown window;
  • prepare post-shutdown reviews, reports, and improvement recommendations;
  • ensure compliance with all site safety systems, statutory requirements, and company standards;
  • manage the quality of the critical shutdown tasks; and
  • building/Developing Rotating Equipment Specifications and Standards.

 

About the Candidate

 

  • bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent);
  • strong understanding of maintenance and reliability practices in mining or heavy industry environments;
  • ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and technical specifications;
  • proficient in root cause analysis and problem-solving techniques;
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills for stakeholder engagement;
  • leadership: ability to lead cross-functional teams during shutdown events;
  • safety-Focused: Demonstrated commitment to health and safety standards and risk management practices;
  • attention to detail: meticulous in planning, tracking, and documenting shutdown activities;
  • time management: able to manage competing priorities under tight deadlines;
  • collaboration: proven ability to work with internal and external stakeholders across disciplines; and
  • resilience: performs effectively in high-pressure environments during shutdown delivery.
