About the Role:

Reporting into the Superintendent ‑ Procurement & Warehouse the successful candidate will ensure the transportation and movement of materials and supplies are received, issued, and stored in a safe, timely and consistent manner that ensures compliance with Talison Standards and established policies and procedures.

This position provides the management supervision and coordination of freight from the point of Origin to Site in an efficient, safe and cost-effective method. This position supports Site purchasing, warehousing and transportation and logistics functional groups ensuring Company objectives and requirements are effectively communicated to contracted transportation providers to ensure compliance and performance targets are met.

Please note that this role is offered on a maximum term basis.

Responsibilities include:

• Execute against tactical transportation & logistics plans for operational inbound materials, specialty chemicals, spares, consumables, equipment and break bulk cargo;
• promote and maintain a safe system of work and a safe workplace for all site Warehouse and Transportation employees;
• coordinate daily and monthly safety/pre-start meetings, monthly safety meetings and conduct weekly workplace safety inspections;
• develop effective day-to-day management of the warehouse transportation and logistics team;
• act as a single point of contact for inbound logistics movements under the span of control of the contracted transportation provider;
• accountability for the quality of work output from transportation and warehouse activities through ongoing monitoring and audits;
• conducting formal career development discussions with employees and identify development opportunities and programs that assist with defining future career progression possibilities.

About the Candidate:

The incumbent should have the following skills and/or experience:

• strong leadership skills with the ability to empower and delegate tasks to ensure project success;
• excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build strong relationships with team members, colleagues, suppliers, peers and other departments;
• demonstrated experience managing trucking and warehousing operations, including the movement of dangerous goods and hazardous chemicals according to safety procedures;
• ability to manage and track key metrics relating to the transportation providers performance;
• strong organisational skills and the ability to plan and manage truck scheduling simultaneously;
• demonstrated experience managing warehouse inventory and bulk chemicals and reagents;
• 3-5 years of experience in a similar role, handling logistics, transportation, storage and distribution of materials;
• Certificate in Transportation, Logistics or Distribution Materials Management.
