About the Role:

The Wear Management Specialist / Engineer is responsible for the development, implementation, and optimisation of site-wide strategies to monitor, analyse, and control wear-related risks across mining fixed plant infrastructure. This role supports the reliability and asset management functions by proactively managing high-wear components, reducing unplanned failures, and improving maintenance efficiency in alignment with safety, regulatory, and cost objectives.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

  • ensure compliance with all site safety systems, statutory requirements, and company standards;
  • develop and lead a comprehensive wear monitoring and tagging program across site;
  • coordinate inspections of high-wear assets and track degradation trends;
  • forecast component wear life and plan optimal replacement windows;
  • specify appropriate wear materials and assist with material trials and selection;
  • investigate wear-related failures and implement corrective actions;
  • support engineering design reviews and contribute to project scopes for high-wear areas;
  • ensure wear management practices align with site safety, structural integrity, and compliance frameworks;
  • maintain wear databases, dashboards, and reporting tools for management visibility; and
  • collaborate with vendors, suppliers, and OEMs to optimise wear packages and service quality.

 

About the Candidate

  • bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related discipline (experience as a qualified tradesman is also acceptable with relevant experience);
  • postgraduate qualification or certification in Asset Management, Reliability, or Condition Monitoring (desirable);
  • strong knowledge of wear mechanics, materials science, and protective coatings;
  • proficiency in inspection techniques and predictive wear modelling;
  • experience using Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and asset integrity tools;
  • ability to analyse technical data and generate actionable insights;
  • proficient in technical report writing and performance dashboards;
  • sound understanding of fixed plant equipment, plant layout, and materials flow systems; and
  • strong communication skills with the ability to liaise across maintenance, operations, engineering, and vendors.
