About the Role:
Talison Lithium is seeking an experienced and driven Payroll Supervisor to join our Remuneration, Benefits and Payroll team based at our head office in the Perth CBD. Reporting to the Remuneration, Benefits & Payroll Lead, the successful candidate will oversee the daily operations of the Payroll Team and the accurate and timely processing of payroll, ensuring compliance with applicable industrial instruments, legislation and Talison policies, guidelines, and procedures. Through their strategic direction and leadership, they will serve as the subject matter expert on all payroll-related matters, promoting best practice and supporting continuous improvement activities.
Duties of the Role:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Oversee the preparation and processing of payroll, ensuring accuracy and timely distribution of salaries, wages, bonuses, allowances, leave, and other entitlements under relevant awards and agreements;
- Supervise and mentor a team of Payroll Officers, fostering a positive and continuous improvement-centred team culture;
- Act as subject matter expert on payroll-related issues, including complex calculations, workers compensation, salary continuance, taxation and benefits administration;
- Drive initiatives to improve team accuracy in payroll processing through quality checks and implementation of process improvements;
- Lead both internal and external payroll audits, including drafting formal responses, preparing samples and supporting documentation;
- Prepare management reports (i.e., cost, general ledger reconciliations) and ensure the timely completion of payroll reconciliations and lodgements including P.A.Y.G, Superannuation, Payroll Tax, Child Support;
- Support the design and implementation of enhancements to the Company payroll system, guidelines, and procedures to be in line with industry best practices, regulatory requirements, and organisational objectives;
- Maintain the payroll system, troubleshooting issues and providing support and training for end users. This includes working closely with system consultants and leading system improvements;
- Develop detailed business cases, procedures, standard work instructions, and process flows to support various payroll-related processes and initiatives; and
- Collaborate on process improvements, system implementations, and other strategic payroll initiatives.
About the Candidate:
The following qualifications are considered desirable for this position:
- Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, Human Resources or related discipline; and
- Member of Payroll and/or HR association(s).
The incumbent should have the following skills and/or experience:
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in a similar payroll supervisory role;
- Proven ability to lead a team and manage competing priorities;
- Demonstrated experience working with payroll systems (PayGlobal/SAP SuccessFactors preferably);
- In-depth knowledge of Australian payroll regulations and taxation (i.e., P.A.Y.G, FBT, Super, Payroll Tax);
- Significant experience interpreting company policies and guidelines, and industrial instruments such as modern awards and enterprise agreements;
- Strong numerical skills and attention to detail with high accuracy in processing data and reporting;
- Proven problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues, troubleshoot, and solve complex issues;
- Demonstrated experience in preparing business cases and developing policies and procedures;
- High degree of confidentiality;
- High level of self-motivation; and
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
