About the Role
We are currently seeking a Senior IST Infrastructure Engineer to join the IST Infrastructure team, reporting to the IST Infrastructure Manager.
This is a senior technical role responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing support of Talison’s core IT and OT infrastructure platforms. You will provide advanced expertise across servers, storage, firewalls, cloud platforms, backup and recovery, while leading complex infrastructure initiatives and acting as an escalation point for major incidents.
The role requires regular travel to Talison operational sites to support infrastructure delivery, project implementation, stakeholder engagement, and hands‑on technical activities within IT and OT environments.
Key Responsibilities
- design, implement, and maintain IT/OT infrastructure solutions across on‑premises and cloud environments;
- provide senior‑level technical leadership during major incidents, outages, and operational challenges;
- lead or contribute to infrastructure‑related projects, upgrades, and migrations;
- act as a senior escalation point for complex infrastructure issues and Service Desk incidents;
- design, implement, and maintain enterprise firewall platforms, including policy management, security controls, and lifecycle activities;
- ensure infrastructure platforms meet defined performance, availability, and security requirements;
- Govern patching, firmware updates, backups, and lifecycle management across infrastructure platforms;
- monitor system health, performance, and capacity, identifying and addressing risks proactively;
- collaborate with vendors and internal stakeholders to deliver robust, supportable solutions;
- maintain and enhance technical documentation, standards, and procedures; and
- provide technical guidance and mentoring to other engineers as required.
Qualifications and Experience
- 10+ years’ experience in IT/OT infrastructure engineering roles, ideally within large or complex enterprise or industrial environments;
- strong expertise across enterprise infrastructure technologies, including:
- Enterprise servers, virtualisation, and storage platforms;
- Firewall and security platforms within IT/OT environments;
- Cloud platforms and hybrid cloud architectures;
- identity, access management, and endpoint management platforms; and
- backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions
- extensive experience with Microsoft technologies including Microsoft 365, Azure, Intune, Entra, Exchange Online, and SharePoint;
- strong experience with backup and recovery solutions such as Veeam and Veeam 365;
- solid understanding of security principles, monitoring tools, and threat mitigation practices;
- experience operating in ITIL‑aligned operational environments;
- proven ability to lead technical workstreams and manage complex workloads;
- excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills;
- a current, valid Australian driver’s licence is required; and
- willingness and ability to regularly travel to operational sites as required.
Desirable qualifications include:
- Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
- Advanced certifications from Microsoft, VMware, or firewall vendors
- Additional certifications in cloud architecture, cybersecurity, or IT/OT integration
